I'm On A Mission

I kind of have a new job.
We are going to Disney this summer and my new job is to figure how to do this trip safely with a child with multiple food allergies.
So far Disney is making things fairly easy on me. I e-mailed a very nice lady named Brenda at Disney Food and Beverage and she e-mailed me back a whole packet of information about what at the park may be safe, where to find these things, how to make food reservations, gluten free products that the park offers (upon request), and much more. I have to e-mail her back with some questions that I have, but for the most part, her packet answered most of my questions.
I know things aren't going to be perfect, but if we can just find a few items to safely feed our child, I will be ecstatic!
Stay tuned for detailed updates.

Are you going to Disneyland or Disneyworld? We are planning a trip to Disneyland in 2009. Can't wait to hear about your experience.

I'm impressed! Not that I've ever had to deal w/food allergies before - but it sounds like Disney is pretty well prepared that they even had a whole packet of info ready to hand out! Hope the trip goes as smoothly :)

sorry to hear about the sickness you posted about below - praying you all are feeling better!

I worked at Disneyland during college and my mom has Celiac Disease so I have explored the options. When you enter the park, head to the left to City Hall, which is next to the Fire Station. At City Hall they can give you the current list of gluten-free options and where to find them. There are phone numbers on the list so you can call ahead and have the food ready, as you will usually have to wait 10-15 minutes extra if you just go right there and order. A good option for one meal could be the Plaza Inn breakfast, which is a buffet before the park opens and includes chracters that interact while you eat. I can think of at least 4 locations in the park that currently offer gluten-free options...including the Pizza Port, which has gluten-free pasta! Hope this helps!

We've been twice to Disneyland in the last 18 months and it was fairly easy to eat allergen free. Sounds like you are doing your homework. Check the peanutallergy.com bboards. There was a recent string about where to eat and not eat at Disney. You're going to have a ball!

Are you going to Disney Land or Disney World ? I have been in Florida and besides the heat (it was in July) there was a lot of choice for food. I don't think you should be worried !

Today we celebrate Three Kings Day in Belgium, so come and have a slice of the "Galette" !

I have a feeling this trip will be a huge success, Janeen. It sounds like they're seriously cooperative with regard to food allergies.

By the way, Happy New Year!

That is great news! I have to say, we've always had a wonderful experience with Disney parks ~ when traveling with small infants/toddlers they also have Mother's Stations where you can bf in private, a stocked kitchen, comfy chairs etc. to escape to if your baby is tired, overheated from the sun, needs a meal etc. That is great to hear they are so helpful with the food allergies too!

Disney was on the Food Network ions ago (we haven't had cable in about 18 monhts so that is ions, right?) at any rate they had a thing on there regarding their allergy friendly menus as well as their non allergy friendly menus. I think it is GREAT that they would offer that and I wish that larger places i.e. Sesame Street Place, Sea World, would do that as well.

We are having our family reunion so it will be nice to see how your trip goes!
